I attended a meeting of my local residents’ association this week, mainly to hear my local city councillor, Kristen Tam Wong, bring us up to date on happenings in our area.
Toronto, like many cities, suffered serious damage of trees throughout the metropolitan area and many have been destroyed. In her response to a question about the need to replant trees to replace the city’s canopy, she replied, “I am Buddhist- and these things matter to me.”
It struck me as such as simple and effective way to express any faith tradition.. In a city where its chief executive officer has become a joke in public office, this councilor stands out. We need more news coverage of the many capable and dedicated politicians who serve in public life.
