Carrying on

Last evening I heard a wonderful performance of the Gabriel Faure requiem. Part of it was a reprise of In Paradisum sung at a funeral just a few days earlier when a dear friend had left us all too soon.

At a time when things are anything but calm, stepping back from the endless press and TV coverage of politics and disasters is something we need to do. This isn’t mere escapism. If we are going to be good citizens we need to recharge our batteries. So its’ probably good to spend some time in doing something of substance – read a whole book, listen to an entire recording, watch a sunset or a sunrise for half an hour as an antidote to the 140 character universe.
